Our Story
The Paschim Vihar Bengali Association, PVBA, is a socio-cultural organisation formed with an objective to bring together bengalis living outside of Bengal (Pravasi Bangali), and stay rooted to their unbelievably rich cultural heritage. The association was formed in the year 1983, with the idea of connecting with immigrant residents in and around Paschim Vihar, and all of West Delhi. Over the years, this association has helped us in staying connected to our community and residents of our locality, and providing us with the touch of our rich Bengali heritage and culture, that is the source of much nostalgia.
The Association is committed to spread the human connect and create meaningful existence for our community. A variety of events are observed that see active participation from a large volunteer base, as we celebrate Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja and various other religious and socio-cultural events. Apart from vibrant festivities, the Association especially emphasizes cultural evenings and competitive events throughout the year.
The foundation on which the PVBA continues to thrive and bring together one and all, is the Kali Bari (Temple/Mandir to Mother Goddess Kali) which was constructed post land allotment in 1998. This temple has since been the nurturer behind the illustrious journey of this association. The temple was dedicated to the public on 23rd March 2002 with the “Dwar Udghaton” ceremony.
Since inception, the PVBA has taken many initiatives towards the well-being of society. It has organised numerous Blood Donation Camps, besides Physiotherapy, Diabetes Awareness, Eye Checkup, and Organ Donation camps and more. It also runs a Charitable Homeopathic Dispensary within the Mandir premises, that serves the locality thrice a week.
The PVBA maintains and promotes the Shashanka Shekhar Memorial Library cum Reading Room that houses more than 6000 books and periodicals in Bengali, English & Hindi. We are glad to mention that this library has one of the largest collection of books in West Delhi.
To extend a helping hand to our esteemed Senior Citizens, a dedicated telephone helpline is operated with the direct contact numbers of our Executive Members, who can be reached in case of an emergency. The PVBA lays special emphasis on the participation of senior citizens in its programs, and also undertakes developmental initiatives for them to extend a community-focused, opportune environment.
The PVBA has been actively engaged in social welfare activities to address upliftment of economically weaker sections, through drives such as blanket and food distribution, and extending funds for natural disaster support programs. Our journey continues with its mission to build along with our thriving community and foster strong interpersonal connections, engaging with its members through social and cultural events throughout the year.
All of this is made possible with the support and encouragement we get from our members, patrons, associates, residents and well-wishers, who fuel the growth of PVBA journey; We look forward to many more milestones and achievements!
